Carter High School - Knoxville, TN
Class of 1967
Carter High School's 100th year
Carter High School will be 100 years old in 2015 and will be celebrating it's 100th anniversary. There is a photo from 1915 in the "Photos & More" page.
The old Carter Elementary School that opened in 1937 was replaced with a new school in August of 2013. The old school was used by many of the Class of 1967 members and thousands more. There's a possibility that 4 generations of some families attended the old elementary school in the 76 years that it was open.
If any of our 1967 class members had four generations of their family that attended the old Carter Elementary School I would be interested to know about them. You can e-mail me with the information at [email protected] to let me know.
Please remember to say a prayer for all of our sick and confined classmates and their families and for the families of our deceased members.
We are going to continue to keep the website up and to update it whenever possible. If anyone has old school pictures (we are still looking for pictures of Asbury, Smith and Union schools) let me know or send them to me at [email protected] and we may try to put them on the website.
If any class member has suggestions about how to improve the website or ideas on additions that we can make please let me know. I'm limited on how much I can do but I can try! Contact at [email protected]
Check out the photos of elementary schools on the Photos and More page. Pictures of Marbledale and Ramsey have been added along with a picture of the "old" Sunnyview school. The picture of Ramsey Elementary is from the 1938-1940 time period and after contacting Charlie McNutt we learned from him that Ramsey looked the same when he went there. He also said that two of the boys in the photo are his cousins. These two photos are in addition to photos previously added of Armstrong Elementary School which was located in the Hightop Community whose students started attending Carter in September of 1964 and the two pictures of Carter High from the early 1940's time period, thanks to Judy Dukes Swanner.
It's been almost three years since we held our 45 year reunion. I know many of us were able to get reacquainted with old friends and have remained in contact with a few since then. Friendships made during a persons high school years are usually never forgotten and lessons we learned from some of our teachers remain with us during our lifetime.
Most of us are now getting to retirement age or have already retired. Everyone please try to do their best to stay healthy and get an annual physical from your doctor. We want to have a 50 year reunion in 2017 and would like for everyone to be there.
We are all saddened by the fact that we continue to lose class members. As of 2015-5-19 we've lost 63 former classmates.
We still have the pictures posted from our last Reunion, including two class group photos.
If you would like a class photo of the 45-year Reunion or a CD of all the pictures you can contact
the photographer at [email protected] or go to her website at http://mirandajphotography.com/

The gymnasium is to the right of the old elementary school and a small part of the old Annex building can be seen to the right of the gym. The building with the slanted roof to the far right is part of the old high school which was built in 1915 and was later replaced by the auditorium.
More old school photos can be seen on the Photos and More page

ENJOY YOUR LIFE WHILE YOU CAN
Do not wait till you cannot even walk just to be sorry and to regret!
As long as it is physically possible, visit places you wish to visit.
When there is an opportunity, get together with old classmates, old colleagues and old friends. The gathering is not just about eating, it’s just that there is not much time left!
Your old friends – seize every opportunity to meet up with your friends, such opportunities will become rare as time goes by.
Not sure who the authors were of these quotes but there certainly is a lot of wisdom in them.
